Our History
Yayasan Dunia Viva Wanita (YDVW) was motivated by the late Ms Bridget Tan who concern and feels the injustice and abused of the right that often experienced by migrant workers returnees, she is also the founder of Humanitarian Organization of Migration Economic (HOME) in Singapore provides shelter and advocacy services for migrant workers especially for woman domestic workers, training services and legal assistance for male and female migrant workers in Singapore. She is a pioneer and activist for migrant workers who have given the rest of her life to fight and campaigning for the right of migrant workers. With her retirement money she founded HOME in 2004 in Singapore and she founded Solidaritas Migran Scalabini Association in Batam Indonesia in 2007 and turn to foundation namely Yayasan Dunia Viva Wanita (YDVW) in 2011.


Her dedication in fighting for the rights of migrant workers Ms Bridget Tan was nominated for 1000 women as recipient of Nobel Peace Prize Awarded by the Peace Woman Organization Across the Globe in 2005. In 2011 Ms Bridget Tan received the Hero Acting to End Modern –Day Slavery Award from the secretary of state of United States of America at that time was Hillary Clinton. This award is given to those who have dedicated their lives to fighting human trafficking, for advocacy and activism, Ms Bridget Tan was inducted into the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame in 2015 she believes, social justice is everyone‘s responsibility, where the rich must help the poor, the strong must help the weak, the knowledgeable must help the less knowledgeable and we all have apart to play the role say Ms Bridget Tan.
During Ms Bridget Tan running HOME Singapore, she received a lot of complaints from migrant workers who return to Indonesia via Batam, where actually their origin province is was not in Batam, usually the migrant workers returnees doesn’t know about Batam and there is no one in Batam to get help when they get into trouble, and in the worse case they can become victims of abused and human trafficking in Batam, because of that Ms Bridget Tan see how important to make cross borders networking in transit area like Batam to bridging of migrant workers returning from Singapore and Malaysia, with the support from Ms Bridget Tan in 2007 migrant workers in Singapore and Batam decide to establish the Solidaritas Migran Scalabini Association in Batam Indonesia.


In 2009 as requested of migrant community in Kampung Air, Solidaritas Migrant Scalabrini has started to help children in migrant community in Batam who live in slum houses by providing reading houses and alternative education facilities for early childhood development program. In order to reach a biggest community and not only give services for migrant workers and migrant communities, in 2011 the Ms Bridget Tan as the advisor of Solidaritas Migrant Scalabrini and all the board members and administrators of Solidaritas Migran Scalabrini agreed to establish foundation namely Yayasan Dunia Viva Wanita (YDVW) apart from providing services to migrant worker returning and migrant communities, since 2011 Yayasan Dunia Viva Wanita has also provided services to empowering women and children, through education and skill training programs, scholarship programs and other community education to build public awareness with HIV and AIDS prevention programs, Anti human trafficking programs and Anti Violance Againts women
and children.
